The Gathering and Social Support Center, in Benavila, was created by the Foundation Abreu Callado in 1990. The institution tried to keep alive throughout time the social dimension and spirit that had always distinguished it, for express will of its founder Cosme de Campos Callado, for whom the “youth education” and the “elderly support” are its two native purposes, as such of legal mandatory fulfilment.
With its own facilities, the Center was intended to retired people of both sex, residents in Benavila, regardless whether they were or not former employees of the Foundation. It is a social reply that satisfies necessities of the elderly population, enabling, through a large set of sociocultural animation activities, moments that propitiate their physical, psychological and social welfare as well as helps to fight the loneliness and give the users the opportunity of being a part of this local social life and sharing of knowledge and experience. This social structure means a basic contribution to improve the quality of life and brighten up the monotony of its beneficiaries daily life.
